Introducing Faith Meeting Faith, Interfaith Relations Award Winner
Why do you love what you do? Faith Meeting Faith brings people together who might not normally find themselves in one another’s company – people from different faith communities in Walsall. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as neighbours and leave as friends. Learning from the very different experiences of others, while also celebrating all that we hold in common, is a real blessing.
What is your proudest moment from the work you've done in your community? We would most like to celebrate the ordinary and everyday friendships that Faith Meeting Faith has nurtured. It’s friendship that will bring communities together and enable people to better understand and value one another.
The Awards are about bringing people together, can you tell us about some of the great things that are happening to bring people together in your sector/community/Walsall? Bringing people together is what Faith Meeting Faith is all about. We love our café gatherings where we invite people to share conversation over coffee and cake. We’ve also made the most of regular Zoom meetings which have allowed many of us to keep in touch. Of course, we’re not the only people doing this work, and we see similar results in different initiatives like Places of Welcome. Every small effort makes a great difference.
What is your vision for Walsall in the next five years? We’d love more and more people to take an interest in bringing different communities together to share the same space and enjoy one another’s company; to overcome the barriers that get in the way of this and make Walsall a more connected town. There are lots of initiatives in Walsall doing lots of great work, and we need to do better at promoting and celebrating each other’s good efforts (much like the Walsall Recognition Awards has encouraged).
What are you most looking forward to doing post Covid-19? While we’ve enjoyed continuing our friendships over Zoom, and hope to continue this, we’re really looking forward to returning to our café gatherings where we’re able involve and welcome more people. Anything else we can organise which involves food is always a good thing!
